SUMMARY: Christian life is full of tension. The tension of living in the now and not yet kingdom of God and the tension of being a sinner and a saint are just a couple of examples. So, the tension of supporting both Israelis and Palestinians, because they are both made in the image of God, should not be foreign to a Christian. Author Lynne Hybels says supporting the existence of the Jewish people, but rejecting the the unequivocal support of the tactics of the modern state of Israel along with supporting the existence of Palestinians but rejecting the tactics of Hamas are two tensions we should be able to hold when discussing the conflict.

KEY QUOTE: “I denounce the violence of the extremist settlers, just as I denounce the violence used by Palestinian extremists. I believe the Holy Land can and should be a place where Jews and Arabs can live as neighbors. I’ve talked with Israelis and Palestinians who are committed to mutual understanding and reconciliation. These Christians, Muslims and Jews have begged me “not to take sides.” They have said, “Please, be a common friend to all of us. Either we will learn to live together or we will die together.” I have become convinced that the best way to be a friend to Israel is to also be a friend to the Palestinians, and the best way to be a friend to the Palestinians is to also be a friend to Israel.”
